Philosophy - Social Responsibility of Architect(ure)

Typically, architect’s work never stands alone in an isolated location. Because our work affects the lives of many, we are responsible to a certain degree for the health, safety, and welfare of the society.

Our responsibilities at minimum span from the legal compliance in terms of usage and building envelop, to safe and sound structure, fire safety systems, and healthful internal environment.

In addition, Architects today are expected to address issues of

a) the minimum load on resources (green or sustainable architecture)
b) accessibility (universal design), and oftentimes,
c) community give-backs (e.g. street improvement, community space integration, etc.)

Architects are also expected to give pro bono work in providing expertise, teaching the young and the public, and to keep abreast of recent development in technology, materials and products, and safety and health related issues.

It is also an important part of our professional lives to enlighten the public and our fellow professionals through publication, lecture circuit, and activities of professional organization. We give back to the future generation of architects by encouraging internships of the young in our practices.

At Quincy Studio, we strive to fulfill our professional responsibilities in our everyday activities.
